Safety and Justice in New York: A Call to Action

Updated: Jul 5

In the heart-wrenching case of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl brutally murdered by individuals who entered the United States illegally, we see a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform and stricter bail policies. As we grieve for Jocelyn and her family, we must also channel our anger and frustration into action.

The two suspects charged with her murder, Franklin Jose Pena Ramos and Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, were both detained and released by U.S. Border Patrol in the months leading up to this tragedy. Despite entering the country illegally, these men were released with orders to appear in court at a later date. This egregious failure of our immigration system has left a family shattered and a community in mourning.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Crimes like this are happening everywhere, including right here in New York. As a sanctuary state, New York's policies have allowed anyone and everyone to enter and remain within our borders, leading to more tragedies like this. We must ask ourselves: How many more innocent lives must be lost before we take decisive action to protect our communities?

Strengthening Our Borders

First and foremost, we need stronger border security. It is unacceptable that individuals who enter our country illegally can simply be released back into our communities. We need a system that thoroughly vets and tracks those who cross our borders, ensuring that those who pose a threat are detained and deported immediately.

Accountability for ICE and Border Patrol

There must be accountability for the agencies responsible for our safety. ICE and Border Patrol must conduct thorough background checks and maintain proper oversight. The release of these individuals, who later committed such a heinous crime, is a glaring example of negligence that cannot be tolerated.

Reforming Bail Policies

We also need to address the issue of bail reform. Current policies allowed Ramos and Martinez to be released with minimal oversight. Violent criminals should not be given the opportunity to be released on bail, posing a continuous threat to our communities. We must advocate for stricter bail policies that keep dangerous individuals behind bars.

National Security and Public Safety

Illegal immigration is not just a political issue; it is a national security threat. The tragic case of Jocelyn Nungaray highlights the urgent need for a legal immigration system that prioritizes the safety and well-being of American citizens. We need to ensure that only those who genuinely seek to contribute to our society and follow our laws are allowed to stay.

Justice for Jocelyn

Justice must be served for Jocelyn. The swift and severe punishment for Ramos and Martinez is essential. Their $10 million bond and capital murder charges reflect the gravity of their crimes, but it is up to us to ensure that justice is truly achieved.

Supporting Victims and Families

In times of tragedy, it is crucial to support the victims and their families. Jocelyn’s death has had a devastating impact, and we must come together as a community to provide the support they need.

Legislative Action

Our lawmakers must act now. We need comprehensive immigration reform that closes loopholes and ensures that illegal immigrants who pose a danger are swiftly removed. Tougher immigration policies and stricter bail laws are essential for a safer New York.

Public Awareness and Mobilization

Finally, we need to raise public awareness and mobilize against policies that endanger our community. Stay informed, get involved, and demand change from our elected officials.

Our Immigration System is Broken and it’s Time to Correct it!
